Ever since I was a kid I enjoyed being creative. I would design birthday cards for friends and make videos with my brother.
Over the years I have honed my skills and had the privilege of using them in a professional capacity. I got into wedding photography in 2007 and during that time also worked for several years doing media and communication for Grace Church Nottingham.
I have a passion for creative media because I love people and I enjoy seeing how my work can bless them. Some of my favourite moments are when I go into a couple's house and see a wedding photo I've taken mounted on their wall; or when I hear someone came to an event because of a flyer I designed; or when someone's business was helped by a video I made.
I have a special desire to help charities and churches. Having worked for a church I've seen the impact that having good creative media can have. I also know that money for charities is usually tight. And so as well as giving away 15% of my income to charitable organisations I also offer discounts on work for charities.
So why "Beard and Bible"?
Good question. Well firstly it was because I have one of the most common first names and surnames in the country. Trying to find the right Jon Brown on Google would have been like the search engine equivalent of Where's Wally.
So I tried to think of a name that caught the essence of my personality and what I would want my website to be. So after a lot of thinking (and some terrible name suggestions) I birthed the name "Beard and Bible". Not only did I like how it rolls off the tongue but also what it stands for. The "Beard" represents the creative and fun side of me and my work. I like to make people laugh and to produce things that look good (e.g a cool poster/a well groomed beard). The "Bible" represents my love for Jesus and my more philosophical/theological side. That's why on my blog you'll see both examples of work and reflections on life. My relationship with Jesus has changed everything, giving me more hope, joy and peace than I could ever imagine. To keep those things quiet and hidden from my blog would be a disservice to myself and a disservice to my customers. So I share my thoughts and my questions, my highs and my lows, and you're very welcome to take them or leave them.
I love people - from all backgrounds and walks of life - and always like making new friends. So if you want to get in touch, or go for a coffee to discuss a job, I'd love to hear from you.
