I've been reflecting on the whole idea of "joy", and how to be joyful even when life is rough. I was thinking about it the other day when the following illustration came to me:
When you look at the night sky you can either choose to focus on the darkness or on the stars. That's kind of how it is when we respond to life and all it throws at us. Sometimes we have to focus on the good, the light, even in dark and difficult times. We don't ignore the darkness but we recognise that the stars are brighter the darker it is. Whatever we face there is always something to be thankful for and we have to make a decision to hold onto that.
Joy doesn't just happen by accident. We have to choose it. And that's not alway easy.
