I've been using Dafont since I was a kid. They have thousands of free fonts ranging from Comic to Calligraphy. You sometimes have to sift through a lot of rubbish but there's some real gems in there. The "Top" list is a good place to start.
Fabio Sasso is a great designer. Every week he publishes his "Fresh Fonts Friday" on his website Abduzeedo. Here he selects a few of the best free fonts going. I've found many of my favourite fonts through FFF. Thanks Fabio.
